It’s a hot August in 1996 and the power is mostly 4 axle as the Kansas City Southern makes its way between Meridian, MS and Shreveport, LA. Besides KCS units, we see CN wide nose GP4OLs (in new paint) and there is some 6 axle power: SD40s, SD45s and a tunnel motor. Also appearing is some NS power, including a GE with at least a 6-foot flame at the stack, Delta Southern and Mid-South geeps. Other highlights include the 3% grade through the enormous Kudzu patch at Vicksburg and a nice meet at Munroe.

  1. Dan

Great scenery, interesting operations, a variety of consists and … now that the video is 25 years old … a neat line-up of “older” locomotives. Expect Highball’s usual excellent camerawork, with video from some out-of-the-way locations. The scenes of trains on the steep grade at Vicksburg are especially nice. 90 minutes of very enjoyable video railfanning.

  2. Lloyd

300 miles from Meridian to Shreveport. A transcon line with run through trains & power. Throw in lots of mainline action, switching action and a steep grade….. you get a great video. That is what this video is. Lots of the newer grey paint scheme, and a few older whites. Along with some NS blacks and fallen flag Mid-South. All great rail fan action.

  3. Dylan Jones

This video is ideal for any KCS fan! Seeing this brought back a lot of memories as I am from this area. Very well documented video for sure! The scenes in Meridian and Vicksburg are awesome, just an FYI!!!
