From Arizona to Missouri, Rail Explorations is a fascinating trip across seven states as we deliver the interesting and the unusual for your enjoyment. We invite you to join us as we explored the rails for the best sights to be had

Our journey takes you to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic, the Abilene & Smoky Valley and the Grande Canyon Railway tourist lines. You’ll get a fascinating look at 50-kilovolt electrics pulling trainloads of heavy coal on the Black Mesa & Lake Powell. We also caught great action of ALCO C420s smoking it up on the Arkansas & Missouri. If that’s not enough, in eastern Kansas on the Midland Railway, you’ll take a cab ride on an RS3, and later, watch as it performs a great runby for our camera. There is even some mainline action to be had along the BNSF, KCS, and UP.

From gorgeous scenery to exciting locations and trains, there is all this and a whole lot more to experience and enjoy in Rail Explorations!

A group of shortline/regional railroads make up this video. Included is some class 1 action. Overall… interesting. Alcos are on some of the shortlines and a cab ride included on an alco. There is even a electric railroad operating pulling coal. Some of these lines can be found in other Pentrex videos, so for some people, they may not be overly interested. Basically…. a whirl wind tour, longer than a preview video simply showing hi-lites. I am not disappointed, but if considering a purchase… You need to have interest in this type of video production.

GREAT AND INFORMATIVE FILM ABOUT A MIX OF STEAM AND DIESEL TRAINS IN ACTION. SEE SEVERAL TRAIN LINES LIKE THE ABILENE AND SMOKY VALLEY LINE AND THE GRAND CANYON RAILWAY TOURIST LINE AND MORE. SEE GREAT SCENERY AND LOTS OF IN YOUR FACE ACTION. ONLY 3 STARS FOR THIS, BUT IT IS 2 HOURS AND 14 MINUTES LONG.

The only reason this program gets a star is so I can tell everyone how horrible this is. I bought this thinking it would be well done in the way pentrex programs are, but it wasn’t. first off this show about unique railroads starts off with a horn happy BNSF GEVO moving slowly through. second, the maps are piss poor, and they went back and forth all over the place, instead of structuring a nice way to move across the map. third, camera quality was crappy. some cameras in the show were up to high quality, but the one that followed the electric units was so fuzzy I cant believe pentrex was so desperate to allow it. The midland railway was boring, because they just showed the view from car, and their runbys were lame. they were of people waving, and were smokeless. some railroads got a lot of attention, and others like San Louis Rio Grande, which has SD9043MACs, F units, B39-8Es, and steam power, all they show is the steam engine pulling through and backing down a switch. BS!!!!! Why they separated the segments of the Durango and silverton I don’t understand. This was completely unstructured, and I feel was way oversold, and is the worst pentrex production I have ever seen, and may I add, I WILL NEVER BUY A BRAND NEW PENTREX SHOW EVER AGAIN!!!

This New Program features a mix of steam & diesel subjects plus the privately own & operated Electric powered coal trains, mainline freights on BNSF KCS & Union Pacific, Riding the midland railway in Kansas, alcos On the Arkansas & Missouri RR, Rio Grande Steam in Colorado, Santa Fe Pacific 3415 in Kansas, & more. Its a must have for railfans, pentrex fans, or any type of fan you love.
