Northern Pacific Railway
Steam Locomotive and Tender Diagrams, Updated to 1957
Even in 1957, the Northern Pacific rostered a large assortment of steam locomotives. This diagram book has diagrams for switchers and main line power along with tenders and auxiliary tenders. It was originally assigned to the Boiler Foreman at Brainerd Shops and was last updated in 1957. The scans above and below show typical diagram pages.
This is a photocopy of an original Northern Pacific Railway Locomotive Diagram Book. It is 8.5 x 11 inches. The original was made up of blueprints, some of which were quite old. Some of the original pages - and so some of the photocopy pages - were difficult to read because of the typical, fading, nature of blueprints. All white-line blueprints have been printed in black-line for this photocopy to make them as easy to read as possible. No matter how difficult to read, all diagrams have been included so that this book is as complete a historical picture as can be had for Northern Pacific steam in 1957. There are 105 pages: 89 diagram pages (about 40 are tenders), with 14 index pages and two key/legend pages. The index pages show as crossed out all the diagrams no longer in the book. You can tell this was a much thicker book in the mid-40's!

Locomotive classes included in this diagram book:
* Class A (4-8-4), * Class A-1 (4-8-4) (This is the famous Timken Four Aces, the first sealed roller bearing locomotive.), * Class A-2 (4-8-4), * Class A-3 (4-8-4), * Class A-4 (4-8-4), * Class A-5 (4-8-4), * Class G-1 (0-8-0), * Class G-2 (0-8-0), * Class L-7 (0-6-0), * Class L-9 (0-6-0), * Class L-10 (0-6-0), * Class Q-3 (4-6-2), * Class Q-4 (4-6-2), * Class Q-5 (4-6-2), * Class Q-6 (4-6-2), * Class S-4 (2-6-0), * Class T (2-6-2), * Class T -1 (2-6-2), * Class W (2-8-2), * Class W-1 (2-8-2), * Class W-2 (2-8-2), * Class W-3 (2-8-2), * Class W-4 (2-8-2), * Class W-5 (2-8-2), * Class Y (2-8-0), * Class Y-1 (2-8-0), * Class Y-2 (2-8-0), * Class Z-3 (2-8-8-2), * Class Z-6 (4-6-6-4), * Class Z-7 (4-6-6-4), * Class Z-8 (4-6-6-4) and * tender classes, 3C, 4C, 7C, 16C, 9C, Y-1, 11C, 12C, 13C, 4E, 5E, 7E, 8E, 9E, 10E, 12E, 13E, 14E, 15E, 17E, 18E, 19E, 20E, 21E, 22E, 28E, 29E, 31E, 30E, 33E, 32E, 35E, 36E, 37E, 48E, 43E, 55E, 1-F, 2-F, 1-G, 2-G, Auxiliary Tenders.
